One of her favorite books growing up was To Kill a Mockingbird; that book inspired her passion for law and justice. Her Great Books education gave Sloan a comprehensive insight into how great minds in many different fields think, and instilled in her a passion for research, writing, and analytical thought. Her theatre education gave her confidence and helps her to this day in litigation and court appearances.
Sloan went on to Indiana University to earn her Juris Doctorate degree in Bloomington. In law school, Sloan was a Managing Editor for the International Journal for Global and Legal Studies, a Competition Coordinator for the Moot Court Competition and she served on the Dean's Advisory Board.
Upon graduating from Law School, Sloan clerked for Judge Williams of the Hamilton County Juvenile Court. To Kill a Mockingbird is still one of her favorite books, and Sloan often calls to mind the advice of Atticus Finch - "You never really understand a person until you consider things from their point of view."
